World's Tallest Dog amputated Leg to Cancer

GRASS VALLEY, CA - Gibson, the Grass Valley Great Dane recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest dog in the world, was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to have one of his front legs amputated, according to the dog's owner.
The 7-year-old, 170-pound Gibson, who rose to become a K9 celebrity and frequent television guest after being measured at 7 feet tall in 2004, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and was forced to undergo surgery to have his front leg amputated, Gibson's owner Sandy Hall said.
In a statement on the K9grass.com Web site, the company said doctors report Gibson's condition is treatable and dogs often can adapt well to the loss of a limb. Gibson is a spokesdog for the company's products.
Hall said Gibson was home recovering after the amputation and his overall prognosis was good. Gibson was expected to undergo chemotherapy in two weeks to remove any residual traces of cancer in his body, Hall said.
Gibson was recognized as the world's tallest dog by Guinness in 2004 after being measured at 42.4 inches at the shoulders.
